Create Before You Consume

Start the day making at least one thing first.

And/Or maybe putting some good into the world.

Then you can consume.

Stretch goal: create 3 things before you consume.

Examples of Creation

  • Writing (and ideally posting)

    • Songs, podcasts, apps, Notes in Substack, other.

  • Telling someone you love them, are thinking about them

    • Call them, text them, email them.

  • Taking someone a coffee

  • Being of service which can be a wide range from holding the door open to buying someone groceries.

  • Basically putting some good into the world.

Creating Requires Practice

I’ve been noticing that writing has been a bit more challenging lately. I have good ideas and themes, can start the post, even get it to 75% done, but the last 25% is elusive. My brain struggles to get there.

Maybe it’s just a season as a creator? Likely I need to push through and intend to do so.

I am also wondering if something else, something new, is at play. This came up in a conversation about AI.

What if using AI more frequently is impacting our creative muscles?

It’s not clear to me what is happening.

What seems true is that I need to create in order to be able to create.

It’s a muscle that needs to be used.

One approach will be to start the day creating.
