Are You Living Your Life?

Are you living your life, or a life that became yours by default?

Not a bad life.

Maybe even a pretty good life.

But is it yours?

With your fingerprints on it. A life shaped by your decisions? The one that feels chosen. Lights up your heart?

Or are you living a life that slowly assembled itself around you?

The city someone else picked? (Maybe your parents)

The career that made sense. The one others would approve of.

The relationship that ticked so many boxes.

The identity that kept those around you comfortable.

A path that was explainable and therefore praised.

Maybe nothing is wrong, exactly.

Does something keep tapping on your shoulder?

Is something knocking on the door?

Maybe the knocking is getting louder.

Something from underneath the life.

What are you drawn toward? What has been there so long you almost stopped hearing it? The longing. That call.

Is there a part of you waiting for permission?

Yet still trying to make it all work in a world that prefers your life is easy to explain, to monetize, to be easy to approve of.

Can you feel another path? A different way?

On the Path

I wasn’t going to include this.

It might hurt my “brand” as a coach.

After sitting with it, this has to be here.

It’s why I have value for some. It reminds me that I am not for everyone, and never will be.

I have lived through, and am again living through, massive change.

Life altering.

Everything, everywhere, all at once.

This is part of me. It is my story. Living my life.

It’s part of the gift I have to offer and there is simply no substitute for experience like this.

In my very humble opinion, you can’t guide someone through massive, life-altering, wobble-inducing transition without having done it yourself.

Ideally more than once.

From the Mess*

In full disclosure, I broke this week.

Crushed under the weight of all the things I am carrying. All that is changing as I answer the call to my life.

Through that, I was reminded of something I wrote

It might feel like you are dying. If so, you are on the right track. — Kris Smith

…which is now a reminder. It’s advice for myself from myself. This is what it feels like.

With some help, a few deep breaths, some laughs, and more support, I got up and continued forward.

Feeling clear, emboldened, steadier, and humbled.

Make Room For The New

My coach sent me this from his coach Preston Smiles.

You can’t ask for a new life while demanding the old one stay untouched.”

“When life starts taking things out of your hands, stop clenching, open, empty your hands so you can receive.”

“Maybe it’s not falling apart, maybe it’s coming together.” — Preston Smiles

Maybe it’s coming together? Damn right.

Nobody said this would be easy.

It has to be hard.

The old, the known, the familiar — needs to make way for the new.

Sometimes the tapping becomes a knocking which becomes a 2 x 4 to the head.

What Do You Want?

What is knocking on your door?

To be a writer?

To create?

Go back to school?

Change jobs?

Travel?

Sit on the beach and earn 20%?

If anything is possible, anything at all — what do you really want?

I mean really, really, really want?

What if you are closer than you think?

What if it requires the death of your current self?

The end of your current life?

Are you up for it?

Would love to talk about it.

Thanks for reading.

Wishing you the life of your dreams.

*My friend has a great saying “From the mess, not above it” which I love.
